Talk With Me! AAC Communications Group

Binghamton University's Division of Speech and Language Pathology offers an Augmentative and Alternative Communication course, Talk With Me!, as part of the University's Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic. 

Course information and cost

Talk With Me! is a communication group course for adults (ages 21 and over) who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This program empowers caregivers to facilitate AAC skills across all environments.  These skills are taught through high-interest activities and collaboration with the goal of developing effective communication and improved independence in social contexts, within the community, in the workforce and at home.

  • Courses meet once a week for 45 minutes; some course sessions run for 12 weeks, and some run for 6 weeks 
  • Cost is $10 per week
  • Course registration and fee cover 1 AAC user and 1 caregiver

Upcoming sessions

  • Spring 2024 — This session runs for only 6 weeks, Feb. 20-April 2. It will meet on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m.
  • Spring 2024 — This 6-week session will be offered in May and June; specific dates are being developed.
  • Fall 2024 — Dates for this 12-week session are being developed.

Students may register for more than one session, but each session requires a separate registration (see below).

Instructor

Kara Nunn MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL, is a clinical instructor in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology at Binghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where she teaches and supervises graduate and undergraduate SLP students. She is a board-certified specialist in child language and language disorders and has served on multiple New York state and local committees to support professionals and students. Nunn’s clinical experience encompasses early intervention, preschool and public school populations and post-21 transitioning.

Location 

Talk With Me! is held in person at Binghamton University's Health Sciences Building, 48 Corliss Ave., Johnson City, N.Y.

To register for Talk With Me!, complete this Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic Referral Form

  • Under What are your concerns with this client's communication choose "Alternative and Augmentative Communication."
  • Under Type of Service Requested choose "In-person therapy (group)." 

Registration includes 1 AAC user and 1 caregiver.
