Services and Programs

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) supports various initiatives to create a more inclusive learning environment and foster a sense of belonging for every student and campus community member. To that end, the division provides a range of services and programs to enhance educational and work experiences and support the transformative mission of higher education institutions.

Workshops

One of our primary services is offering educational workshops through the UDiversity Educational Institute. These workshops cover various topics, including cultural competency, implicit bias, inclusive pedagogy, effective communication and restorative practices. By providing participants with the knowledge and tools to navigate complex socio-cultural dynamics, these programs foster greater understanding and respect among diverse communities.

Search committee training

With the Office of Human Resources, DEI supports the employee search and recruitment process to ensure a diverse and representative applicant pool. Faculty and staff serving or interested in serving on a search committee must attend a search committee orientation workshop.

Programs

Principles of Community Symposium

The division and various campus partners support programming through our annual symposium that fosters knowledge sharing and provides a platform for thought leaders in higher education and DEI.

Promise Scholars Initiative

Promise Scholars offers strengths-based, identity-conscious support, bridging opportunity gaps before they widen. From their first year through graduation, this initiative equips students with the confidence, capital and community to persist, graduate and lead with purpose at  Binghamton and beyond.

PRODiG+

The division works with various Binghamton University academic units to identify positions for the PRODiG+ doctoral fellowship. Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Plus (PRODiG+)  is a pipeline for over 400 doctoral fellows to enter tenure-track positions at State University of New York campuses.

Social Mixers

The division hosts its Friends of DEI Social Mixer each semester, open to campus members and community partners. These social events offer networking opportunities for community members to connect.
