University Capital Priorities
Binghamton University’s top three capital priorities are guided by the University’s Strategic Plan and the recently completed 10-Year Campus Master Plan. Together, these planning efforts identify the projects most critical to advancing the academic and research mission, supporting student success, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the campus.
| Priority | Project- New Building Construction |
| #1 | New Research Building - Smart Tech (could potentially be constructed in three phases) |
| #2 | Undergraduate Research Center |
| #3 | Resilience & Energy Research Center (includes Transportation Hub) |
These projects are currently not funded. Advancement is dependent on the availability of significant capital funding from New York State. While the University will continue to strongly advocate for these projects, funding decisions are made at the State level and there is no guarantee as to if or when individual projects may be approved.
Once funded, major capital projects are inherently complex and require substantial time for planning and execution. Design phases typically take 18–24 months, followed by an additional construction period that may extend up to two years or more, depending on project scope and conditions. The University remains committed to thoughtful planning and transparent communication as these efforts move forward.

Upcoming Renovation Projects
While many renovation projects are already underway across campus, the University is excited to share that additional important improvements are planned for the next few years. These include:
- Enhancements to the first and second floors of Bartle Library
- Targeted improvements within the Fine Arts Building
- Expansion of the Campus Pre-School
- Renovation of the Wrestling Room in the West Gym.
This is not an exhaustive list, but it reflects the wide range of projects the University is actively pursuing -spanning academic spaces, student support facilities, and athletic and community-focused areas. Together, these efforts demonstrate our ongoing commitment to improving campus spaces in ways that support learning, creativity, and campus life.
