Binghamton University offers several unique orientation programs for new graduate students, each carefully designed to assist and guide your transition to a member of our university community. Binghamton University orientation is a campus-wide, collaborative effort. Please see below for important information regarding orientation programs and scheduling.
New Graduate Student Orientation (fall only)
Students joining the Graduate School community in fall 2026 will receive access to an online, asynchronous orientation experience through BrightSpace beginning in early summer. Students should plan to engage with these resources before coming to campus, including mandatory modules for students with Assistantships (TAs/GAs). An in-person reception will be held to welcome new graduate students on Tuesday, August 25, from 3–5 PM in the Mandela Room, University Union.
Academic Department Orientation (fall)
Most academic departments offer orientation events in the fall for new graduate students within their academic programs. Dates, times and locations will vary by program and you will receive a communication from your department. If offered, it is strongly recommended for all new graduate students to attend their department's program.
Academic Department Orientation (spring)
Some academic departments offer orientation events in the spring for new graduate students within their academic programs. If your first semester of study is in the spring, please contact the Graduate Secretary of your academic department directly for information regarding spring orientation. If offered, it is strongly recommended for all new graduate students to attend their department's program.
New International Graduate Student Orientation (fall and spring)
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) hosts New International Graduate Student Orientation prior to the fall and spring semesters. It is required for all new international graduate students to attend this program. More important pre-arrival information and details about New International Student Orientation can be found here.
