ICD-CADCC CHEW Frequently Asked Questions

ICD-CADCC CHEW Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after intake paperwork is completed?

We review intake requests received each month at the end of that month to determine whether or
not the case is appropriate for our team. Families can expect to hear from us within the first two
weeks of the following month as to whether or not we are able to accept their case. If we accept
the case, usually the initial appointment can be scheduled in the next 2-4 months, depending on
our waitlists

How can we prepare for the initial assessment appointment?

You will be asked to bring along several food items from home to your appointment. On the day
of the appointment, please bring the selected foods along with your child and primary caregivers
(parents/legal guardians). Details will be reviewed with you in advance so you can prepare.

What do you do in the initial assessment appointment?

Your family will be seen by a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in feeding
and eating wellness. During your appointment, you will be asked about your current concerns, and
your child will be asked to eat a snack composed of foods brought from home. After clinical
interviews and direct observation, a summary report with recommendations will be generated and
shared with your family. Strategies will be discussed and modeled for improving areas of need at
home and resources for next steps will be provided via handouts or contact information for
agencies/providers who might be helpful in supporting your family.

How often do we see you for services?

This is up to you! Some families may only need the initial assessment and recommendations, while
others with more significant concerns may want more long-term expert consultation.

How often CAN we see you for services?

If families opt for ongoing consultation with our team following the first appointment, we are
able to see families on a monthly or bi-monthly basis for 45-minute refresher/troubleshooting
sessions for up to 4 additional sessions beyond the initial appointment.

Is this feeding therapy?

No, this model is not feeding therapy like what is offered in a medical setting. Our model uses
periodic family training with the child to help families feel empowered to manage feeding and
eating needs at home. If our providers feel as though formal feeding therapy or a medical
swallowing evaluation is needed, that will be included in a recommendation after your initial
appointment.

What do services cost?

The initial assessment appointment is $100 and any refresher/troubleshooting sessions are $30
each. Refresher/troubleshooting sessions can be purchased one at a time or in a 4-pack.

What payments do you accept?

Payment must be made by check or money order and is due at your appointment. We are not
permitted to accept insurance, cash, or credit card payments per university policy at this time.
