The Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MEAMS) offers students the chance to major and minor in the languages, literatures, and cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world--Greece, Rome, and beyond--as well as the modern Middle East. Courses range from foundational language instruction in Arabic, Ancient Greek, Latin, Persian, and Turkish to more advanced coursework, building the skills needed to engage with these regions and periods directly. The ideas that took shape there, about politics, ethics, storytelling, faith, and power, continue to influence how we think and live today. Through our undergraduate programs in Ancient Mediterranean Studies and Middle East Studies, along with study abroad and research opportunities, MEAMS helps students understand both where we are today and how we got here.
