The Migration occurred a bit late this year. The major part of the migration of Yellow
Spotted Salamanders crossed the Connector road on 3.31.08. The rain was spotty throughout
the night, but the road was wet. There was a fairly steady crossing from 8:30 until
Midnight and on probably throughout the night. A good number of people 9>20) braved
the weather and late hours to witness this annual event. They average about 12 an
hour; a bit slower than last year's 15 per half hour. There were females crossing
as well as males (usually the males go first.). Spermatophores haven't appeared in
the ditch by the Marsh Trail, yet. The salamanders haven't finished courting, yet,
and may still be crossing the road in the next couple of rainy nights. Eggs will appear
soon. A few spring peepers and red efts crossed, also. The American Woodcock were courting on the side of the road as well.
