Top Items to Pack for your Binghamton Move-In

Move-in is a big, fast-paced, exciting day for new and returning students alike, and with all the bustle, it’s easy to forget an item or two you’d wish you’d packed. Having a list and being prepared are key steps for move-in. We’re here to help you double-check your lists and make sure you’re prepared for the big move!

Here are some of our top recommended items (and some to avoid) for your move to Binghamton.

Bedding

Your bed is an essential part of your dorm, so it should come as no surprise that we recommend you bring items that’ll tailor it exactly to your liking. Bringing items like pillows, sheets for an extra-long twin, blankets and bedspreads, and a mattress topper can help significantly improve your sleeping experience.

First-aid kit

Accidents happen, so it’s incredibly important to be prepared for the what-ifs, just in case. Having a first-aid kit available can save you a ton of trouble, so make sure to equip it with things like adhesive tape and bandages, antiseptic liquid and wipes, gauze, and more. Also, consider packing the student’s prescribed and approved medicine. Just be sure to store it carefully and safely!

Toiletries

Various Toiletries

Various toiletries are a must-have for staying hygienic while at college. For the shower, try bringing things like a loofah, shampoo, soap, and deodorant, and putting them all in a shower caddy for convenience. You won’t want to forget towels and shower shoes as well. Also, bring extra toothpaste and mouthwash, and a container for your toothbrush.

Cleaning supplies

Various cleaning supplies

Keeping your dorm and items clean can be a chore, so bring items that’ll help make it just a little easier. Consider bringing laundry items like liquid detergent or pods, dryer sheets, and stain removers. For your dorm items, try bringing wet wipes, air freshener, paper towels, washcloths, and dish detergent.

Snacks

Various snacks

Quick snacks are a great thing to have available, no matter where you are, so feel free to pack some favorites to store in the dorm. Many brands offer large quantity variety packs, which are perfect for going under the bed. Additionally, if you choose to bring your own minifridge or rent one from MicroFridge, you can pack cold drinks and microwave snacks as well!

Fan

There’s no avoiding the heat when the weather gets warmer, so having a fan on standby will help keep you cool and dry during those scorching days. A simple desk-top fan can not only cool you down but also improve the feeling of your dorm, so it’s an investment you won’t regret!

Electronics

Electronics are all over our everyday life, and it’s easy to see why. Many devices help improve both our efficiency and comfort all the time, and that’s no different in college. Having something like a portable laptop can be a lifesaver for projects, classes, and homework, but also be nice for entertainment and recreational use as well. Headphones or earbuds can help you focus by eliminating surrounding noise or help you relax by listening to music or a podcast. Even a desk lamp can make a difference while hanging out in the dorm.

School supplies

Having the right school supplies will help boost your academic life to the next level. Making sure you’re always prepared with things like pens and pencils, paper, notebooks, folders, and other standard school supplies will help keep you prepared for your classes and extracurriculars.
