What is the McNair Scholars Summer Research Internship Program?
A paid summer internship at Binghamton University, during which you will work as a
Research Assistant on a faculty-designed research project, at least 30 hours a week.
How many MSSRIP positions are available?
There are 20 MSSRIP positions available.
Who can apply to the MSSRIP?
Anyone who qualifies for the McNair Scholars Program can apply to the McNair Scholars
Summer Research Internship Program.
What are the qualifications for the McNair Scholars Program?
To qualify, you must have an interest in attaining a PhD, completed 48 credit hours,
a minimum GPA of 3.0 in each of the last three semesters, and be a US citizen or permanent
resident and meet ONE of the following criteria:
- You are a first generation college student (neither of your parents have a bachelor's degree) from a low-income background; or
- You are from an ethnic group underrepresented in doctoral programs, (African American, Native American or Latino).
Preference is given to those students who qualify as both first generation and low-income.

When is the application deadline?
The McNair Scholars Program has rolling admissions and accepts applications year round.
However, the Summer Research Internship Program has an early consideration application
deadline.
