Mission and purpose

The MOC Summit aims to educate, empower and motivate our students to strive for excellence in education. During this daylong event, students, faculty, staff and community members enjoy opportunities to engage in discussions that address the needs and issues that men of color face and how those issues intersect with their academic and professional success.

The Summit invites all students to participate. However, it is intentionally designed to help men gain a stronger sense of self as well as to connect with peers, faculty, staff, and the larger Binghamton University and surrounding communities. The Summit’s goals are to provide opportunities for participants to learn from and engage with professional leaders in the community, to provide networking opportunities for participants to learn from each other by participating in workshops and small group discussions, and to help participants gain a greater sense of self. Attending the educational sessions offered will help them to contextualize their identity socially, academically, historically and politically.

The MOC Summit is presented by various Binghamton University divisions and departments, the Iota Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and SUNY Broome Community College.
