CARE Team Referral

The CARE Team at Binghamton University is dedicated to providing support, care, and advocacy for students in need. We are part of the Office of the Dean of Students and offer comprehensive case management services for students facing personal struggles, distress, or challenges that require additional support and resources.

To submit a referral, complete the referral form below. Once the form is submitted, the CARE Team will review the information and follow up as needed. This may include contacting the student, the referring party, or other relevant individuals.

CARE TEAM REFERRAL FORM

Referrals for Residential Students

Please note that the CARE Team collaborates closely with Residential Life Student Support Services. Residential students are typically referred to student support services through the CARE Team.

The Residential Life Student Support Team includes two full-time social workers and a team of Master of Social Work (MSW) program interns. They provide assistance with social, behavioral, emotional, and academic challenges, supporting residential students' well-being and success on campus.

Who can use this form?

Faculty, staff, family members, students, or any concerned individual can refer a student to the CARE Team or Residential Life Student Support Team using this form. Additionally, faculty and staff may use this form to fulfill reporting obligations related to incidents of sexual violence, including dating violence, stalking, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

Once the form is submitted, the CARE Team will review the referral. If appropriate, we may contact the student, the referring party, and/or other identified individuals by 1-2 business days.

If you are concerned about someone's immediate safety, property destruction, or another emergency, please call 911 or University Police at 607-777-2393. For urgent concerns involving someone at risk of harming themselves or others, contact University Police without delay.

Confidentiality

While we respect privacy, the CARE Team cannot guarantee confidentiality.  Any information suggesting harm to self or others will be reported to the appropriate services for a higher level of care. All other information is shared strictly on a need-to-know basis to provide the best support for the student.

Based on the information provided and level of intervention determined, this could include outreach from a case manager, the student may be referred to the Students of Concern Committee, or possibly reviewed by the Threat Assessment Team. Either way, all students referred will receive appropriate intervention based on their unique situations.

We thank you for your care, collaboration and commitment to supporting our students.
