Background

John Vassello is the Director of Admissions and Student Services in the Binghamton University Department of Social Work. He has previously served as the Department of Social Work's Continuing Education Coordinator, Co-Director of Field Education and Admissions and Associate Director of Field Education. Vassello earned his BA and his MSW from Binghamton University.

Vassello is an experienced medical social worker and has worked in an emergency department at a local hospital. He taught crisis prevention and management to hospital staff and served on the hospital diversity and inclusion council. During the flooding in Broome County in 2011, John worked at several local shelters to provide crisis intervention and social and emotional support to displaced individuals and families.  He has also worked as the founding Community School Coordinator in a local school district building new and meaningful school-community partnerships. As part of this work, Vassello worked with a local theatre to develop and facilitate a successful summer arts program for vulnerable local youth.

John is a clinical social worker and maintains clinical social work licenses in three states.  He worked as a telehealth mental health provider to individuals seeking counseling and behavioral health treatment.
