Mamun Al-Mamun
Assistant Professor
Background
Abdullah Al-Mamun is an interdisciplinary researcher in health systems, health services, and health data science. His work integrates advanced analytics with public health and clinical practice to improve decision-making, quality of care, and population health outcomes. He earned his PhD in computing and information sciences from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, U.K., and completed two postdoctoral fellowships in public health modeling and population medicine at Cornell University (Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences) and Yale University (School of Public Health).
Al-Mamun directs the HealBig Lab (Health Services, Outcomes, and Big Data Informatics), which develops computational methods to address complex challenges in health systems, health outcomes research, and public health surveillance. His research utilizes advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and decision support systems to support interdisciplinary, evidence-based solutions.
His recent projects focus on critical public health problems, including tools to understand kidney impairment and outcomes among patients with diabetes and heart failure, methods to support earlier diagnosis of rare diseases (including transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy, ANCA associated vasculitis, and intestinal malrotation), and passive surveillance systems to monitor polysubstance use and related mental health conditions. His work supports health systems improvement, policy development, and health equity through predictive analytics and data driven decision making.
