Diversity

THE BINGHAMTON COMMUNITY IS ONE THAT VALUES UNITY, IDENTITY AND EXCELLENCE.

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) fosters an inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment for all Bearcats. The division includes several units — the Multicultural Resource Center, Q Center and the UDiversity Educational Institute.

The centers and institute offer programming and learning spaces for students interested in:

  • exploring cultural competency and diversity education.
  • finding support as a marginalized or gender non-conforming person.
  • fostering an understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.

Multicultural Resource Center

The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) offers programs, opportunities and events that provide experiences for personal and professional growth like the Pathways to Inclusive Leadership Program, and promotes events that increase awareness and understanding of cultural diversity. The MRC is a welcoming space for students to relax, study or engage with others. The MRC also hosts a multifaith meditation and prayer room open to all students 24/7. Check out what's happening at the MRC.

Q Center (QC)

The Q Center focuses on community building, education and programming that supports and affirms all gender identities and sexual orientations. The center provides a safe place to gather for the transgender and gender non-conforming student population with unique resources like the gender-bender walk-in clothing closet and annual pride events, including OUTober, Lavender Graduation Celebration and Rainbow Welcome.

The center's professional staff and peer educators also facilitate active Ally workshops for students who wish to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and develop strategies for practicing allyship. Sign up for the Q-Tea newsletter, follow them on social media, learn about available resources and find support to be your authentic self.

UDiversity Educational Institute (UDiversity)

UDiversity hosts a variety of programming that promotes student development, cultural competency and civility. UDiversity offers an internship program that helps prepare students with the skills necessary to capably address and facilitate healthy discussions around issues of diversity and inclusion, as well as learn about and participate in event and workshop planning.

Bias-related incidents

Bias includes conduct that harms, injures, harasses or unfairly targets someone based on social or gender identity. Here's some important information on bias-related incidents every student should know.
