Colin Lyons

Assistant Professor

Department of Art and Design

Fusing printmaking, sculpture, and site-specific installation, Lyons’ work employs the chemistry of etching to consider preservation in an age of planned obsolescence and resource depletion. His recent projects reflect on issues around sacrificial landscapes, geo-engineering, and urban renewal.

Lyons’ work has been shown in solo exhibitions throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in group exhibitions internationally. Recent solo exhibitions have been presented at SPACES (Cleveland), CIRCA art actual (Montreal), Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (Dawson City), Centre[3] (Hamilton), aceartinc. (Winnipeg), Artcite (Windsor), OBORO (Montreal), Kamloops Art Gallery (Kamloops) and SNAP Gallery (Edmonton).

His projects have received funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and The National Endowment for the Arts. In 2016, he was awarded the Grant Wood Fellowship at The University of Iowa, and in 2013 he participated in the Kala Art Institute Fellowship in Berkeley, California. His projects have been featured in Canadian Art Magazine, Art in Print, Magenta Magazine, The Globe and Mail, Le Devoir, Full Bleed and Vocativ, among others.
