Principal Investigator
Ying Wang, PhD
Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Wang receive her Ph.D. in biomedical Engineering from the University of California at Davis, where she studied the inflammatory basis of dietary lipids using in vitro vascular mimetic models. She pursued her postdoctoral training with Michael Shuler and Harold Craighead at Cornell University, where she developed microphysiological systems for modeling human blood-brain barrier (BBB) and colorectal cancer liver metastasis. Her paper on the BBB model won the Biotechnology & Bioengineering Gade Award as the best paper of the year. She was also an HHMI fellowship recipient. Dr. Wang joined the department of biomedical engineering at Binghamton University as an Assistant Profession in Fall 2019.
Courses:
BME213 Biomolecular Engineering; BME303 Biofluid Mechanics; BME432 Ethics in Engineering; BME484/584 AI in BME.
Postdoctoral Associate
Md. Daud H. Khan
Dr. Md. Daud Hossain Khan completed his PhD in Bioengineering from George Mason University. During this time, he was involved in several collaborative projects, traversing different areas of cancer research. These include hypoxia studies, cancer molecular biology and developing point-of-care, microfluidic-based devices for cancer. This has resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at prestigious conferences. Before his postdoc at Binghamton University, he has served as an Assistant Professor at Independent University Bangladesh.
Graduate Students
Sadia Khan
Sadia is a Ph.D student working on developing microphysiological systems for modeling vasculature for biomedical application. Current research also focuses on lab-on-a-chip devices that use microfluidics, 3D printing, Cell-Tissue culture to simulate the interactions between the islets and the gut cells, and on-chip spheroid development for disease modeling. She got her B.Sc in Biomedical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).
Xianyang (Leila) Li
Xianyang is a PhD student studying human organ-on-a-chip. She received her Master’s Degree in Thermal Engineering, specializing in flow and heat transfer modeling for microchannels, as well as image analysis and 3D reconstruction of biofilms. She is currently working on numerical simulation of microfluidics and image analysis of microvessels.
Nelson Lin
Nelson is pursuing both a Bachelor's and Master's degree through Binghamton University's
4+1 Program. He is currently Pre-Med and intends to pursue medical school after acquiring
his Master's degree in 2023.
Undergraduate Students
Liyuan Wang
My name is Liyuan Wang. I am a senior studying Biochemistry at Binghamton University, Harpur College. I am working towards becoming a biomedical scientist and am currently a part of Dr. Wang's research lab.
Emma Drake
Emma is currently a senior studying Biomedical Engineering at Binghamton University. Her concentration is in Biomaterials and Biopharmaecuticals. She plans to use the expertise and skills gained through the research in this lab to start a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Madeline Meschino
I am currently a junior studying biomedical engineering with a concentration in biomaterials and bio-pharmaceutical drugs. I’m hoping to continue with research in my career. I am involved in numerous organizations such as Biomedical Engineering Society and Society of Womens engineers. I love to work out, read, and spend time with family and friends.
Lucas Pawlicki
I am currently a junior in the biomedical engineering program concentrating in biomedical instrumentation and computational biosystems. I am involved in a number of clubs and organizations on campus such as Biomedical Engineering Society, Alpha Eta Mu Beta Biomedical Engineering Honor Society, and the American Red Cross. I plan on pursuing a master’s degree in BME as part of the 4+1 program after my undergraduate studies.
Nakita Richmond
Frances "Nakita" Richmond is a junior studying Biomedical Engineering. She is currently working towards a concentration in both pre-medicine and computational biosystems. She has held a chair position for diversity, equity, and inclusion and is currently interning for the Charles Drew Pre-health society. In her free time, she enjoys doing philiatropy work for various organizations such as the Children's Miracle Hospital and the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies include spending time with friends and playing the piano.
