Run the Brain

Run the Brain, Rep Your Class, Win the Day.

Join us for Run the Brain! Representatives from each undergraduate class year will compete to win the Run the Brain race. No more than 20 runners from each class year will participate. To follow safety guidelines, runners are running solo in a staggered/time trial fashion.

Participants will run on the inside sidewalk of the approximate 1.3 mile "Brain Loop" route — NOT on the road. Registration itself is staggered to allow for spacing guidelines and limited numbers of participants in the same location at the same time. The class with the fastest runners will get their year listed on a perpetual trophy. Individual runners with the fastest times will win a medal and their name will also be included on the trophy.

Registration

Registration will be run through B-Engaged on a first-come, first-served basis. A waiting list will also be available. 20 runners per academic year can participate.  Students must register for a slot that corresponds to their academic year standing.

Run times

Every runner will start exactly two minutes after the runner before them to space out runners. Runners will have a scheduled start time that they will have to adhere to. The schedule of runners will be available before the race, but changes may be made to actual run times based on any cancellations or other circumstances.

Runners will be clocked at the beginning and the end of the race to determine their time. The class with the fastest times (as a team average) will win fame and glory for their class, and the individuals with the fastest times will receive a medal.

  • 9–10:30 a.m. — First-year runners begin
  • 10:30–Noon — Sophomore runners begin
  • 1–2:30 p.m. — Junior runners begin
  • 2:30–4 p.m. — Senior runners begin

Participant rules and regulations

  • Every runner will check in at the Campus Activities tent on the Peace Quad on the morning of the event.
  • Runners will have a specific run time that they will need to adhere to. Bibs will be given out during check-in.
  • Once the race begins, it is very important, in order to avoid injury, to run around the Brain on the inside sidewalk — NOT THE ROAD. Anyone caught running on the road will be disqualified.
  • Participants with the fastest race times will be honored immediately upon the return of the last runner (and end of race) with a medal ceremony which should occur approximately at 12:30 p.m. on the Peace Quad.
  • Free T-shirts will be given out during the check-in process for each runner (runners are not required to wear these shirts).
  • All participants are asked to bring their own water and snacks as needed. Bathrooms will be available in the The Union.
