Lavender Celebration and Pride Awards

Lavender Graduation is held at colleges and universities around the country as a way to honor the success of LGBTQ students graduating with their Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees. Here at Binghamton University, we combine the presentation of graduates with our annual awards ceremony to create one grand end-of-the-year celebration!  Lavender Celebration and Pride Awards will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 2 pm via Zoom (to be shared through BEngaged). Graduating in May or August of 2021?  There is still time to sign up for Lavender Celebration!

Students who graduated in December of 2020 or who will graduate in May or August of 2021 are eligible to be acknowledged during Lavender Celebration. Please visit https://tinyurl.com/LavenderCelebration2021 The last day to register as a graduating student is Friday,  April 16, 2021. Tell a friend!  It's even more meaningful to participate together!

Know someone who deserves a Pride Award?  Nominations are due by March 28, 2021.

The Q Center is excited to receive nominations for six Pride Awards to be offered this year! Awards honor students, faculty and staff who have made significant contributions to the lives of LGBTQ people at Binghamton University:

  • The OUTstanding Award is given in recognition of a graduating student who is open, visible, and unapologetic in overcoming stereotypes and social norms, while also being a trailblazer that extends boundaries for the LGBTQ+ community on campus.
     
  • The Sunshine Award is given in recognition of a student who is caring, welcoming, and has an optimistic attitude. In addition, this student transcends cliques and social groups in order to help everyone feel like they have a place within Binghamton.
     
  • The Community Service Award is given in recognition of a student who has outstanding community service through volunteer work or a project that provides a direct benefit to the LGBTQ+ community at Binghamton.
     
  • The Activism Award is given in recognition of a graduating student's outstanding efforts to educate and advocate for LGBTQ+ issues at Binghamton through leadership in an organization or through organizing activities that address social injustice.
     
  • The Student Ally Award is given in recognition of a student ally who has shown support for and has had outstanding service for LGBTQ+ students to make Binghamton a more welcoming and comfortable place for all students.
     
  • The Faculty/Staff Ally Award is given in recognition of a faculty or staff member who has served and shown support for LGBTQ+ students, while creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for all students.
