University Testing Center Graduate Student Assistant

Title: Graduate Student Assistant (Proctor)

Status: Part-time, not to exceed 29 hours per week (20 hours for international students)

Supervisor: Director of University Testing Center

Position Summary:

The University Testing Center is currently accepting applications for the position of UTC Graduate Student Assistant. The UTC is designed to support faculty in implementing authorized testing accommodations not easily provided within their classrooms. We also assist faculty efforts to provide a space for students who need alternate testing times and locations for other legitimate reasons. 

Graduate Student Assistants work under the supervision of the Director of University Testing Center to assist in the administration of institutional exams. Duties include administrative tasks, test proctoring, and interaction with examinees, faculty, and staff. Administrative duties include answering phones and emails, scanning and copying, filing, maintaining testing schedule, and other clerical tasks as needed. Student employees are trained and supervised to administer a variety of exams according to national testing standards to maintain integrity, security, and confidentiality of tests and examinees.

Position Duties:

  • Check students in as they arrive at the UTC
  • Maintain clean and quiet atmosphere for testing
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of test materials
  • Work with faculty to obtain materials and return them in a timely manner
  • Actively proctor exams
  • Work with students who are in need of special accommodations (extended time, enlarged text, testing software, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials
  • Communicate any issues to the Director
  • Other duties and special projects deemed reasonable and necessary by the Director

Position Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student in good academic standing
  • Available for 15-20 hours per week, with additional availability during finals week

  • Previous proctoring or teaching experience desired but not required

Compensation:

This position will be paid $16.00 per hour.
