4+1 Degree Program

BA+ MA in Comparative Literature

The Five-year Combined Degree Program is designed for outstanding Binghamton University comparative literature students who wish to combine a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Master of Arts.

Why take this approach?

  • Combine a Bachelor of Arts with a Master of Arts in comparative literature.

  • Reduce the time to complete both degrees from 6 to 5 years.

  • Take graduate-level courses that satisfy graduate and undergraduate degree requirements.

Admission Requirements

Students are expected to apply in their junior year. Admission will be evaluated by the Comparative Literature faculty and processed through the Comparative Literature Graduate Director and the Graduate School. Admission requires an excellent cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and satisfaction of the Foreign Language requirement.

Application materials include an official transcript, the names of 2 references of the professorial rank, a 2 page personal statement, and a writing sample. In addition, to transition from the BA to the MA the student will need to complete the former degree within 4 years and have received at least a "B" letter grade for each of their two graduate seminars.
