Confidentiality

All client records are confidential. No information can be revealed or released to anyone, including parents or legal guardians, without a release signed by the student. Exceptions may occur if a clinical judgment has been made that an individual's mood or conduct indicates a substantial risk of harm to self or others. Also, there are rare circumstances where a clinician may be required by law or by court order to reveal particular information about a client.

Records of counseling sessions are not part of a college student's education record and are accessible only to the Health and Counseling Center staff. Files are maintained for at least seven years, and then archived or destroyed in a manner consistent with all applicable confidentiality laws and policies. If you have any questions or concerns regarding confidentiality or service, we encourage you to discuss them with your counselor.
