Health, Device and Uniform Requirements

Health/Clinical Practice Requirements

As a DPT student, you must comply with health regulations set by the New York State Department of Health, the Division of Physical Therapy, Binghamton University and affiliated agencies. Compliance is verified before and immediately following all deadlines.

Device Requirements

DPT students are required to own a laptop or iPad while enrolled in the program. Students will be required to write papers, create presentations, record video and take exams on their device. Students are expected to bring the device as requested, fully charged (power may not be available) and adhere to individual course-use policies.

Minimum power and memory requirements

Decker College follows the device requirements set forth by the ExamSoft exam-testing platform. Students should ensure their device(s) meet these requirements.

Software

Students may be required to download and/or purchase additional software. If this is the case, students will be provided with instructions and links. Technology-related questions should be directed to Binghamton University’s Help Desk at 607-777-6420 or helpdesk@binghamton.edu

Get Microsoft Office software free: Binghamton University provides Microsoft Office free of charge to students, faculty and staff for use on their personal computers and devices. To obtain this free software, you must have an active Binghamton email address. Visit the University's Information Technology Services Office 365 webpage for instructions and more information.

Uniform Policy

You are required to comply with a clinical organization's dress code when completing assigned clinical education experiences at all facilities. Once you are assigned to a facility, you may ask the facility's coordinator if there are dress code requirements unique to that clinical facility. Noncompliance will lead to disciplinary action by the faculty of record relative to the seriousness of the infraction.

Additional Expenses Related to Clinical Experiences

As a DPT student, you should expect to incur expenses for items related to clinical experience; these are in addition to the standard University tuition and fees.

Policy 5.2.9 of the DPT Clinical Education Handbook states the following:

Students are responsible for all expenses related to clinical education. The location of suitable housing and maintenance of dependable transportation are also the student's responsibilities.

Potential costs include:

  • housing, travel and other living expenses
  • arrangements for childcare and pet care
  • fulfillment of additional compliance requirements required by clinical site (including, but not limited to, drug screening and background checks)
  • additional requirements of matching to a clinical site, including travel for an on-site interview
  • access and utilization of emergency services

Students should consider expenses when creating a site preference list.

Binghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Division of Physical Therapy are not responsible for any expenses incurred in preparation for and/or during any clinical education experience, including experiences that are canceled prior to the start of the clinical education experience.
