Binghamton Center for Writers

The Binghamton Center for Writers is a State University of New York Organized Research Center associated with our Creative Writing Program.

While academic courses are handled through the English Department, the Center for Writers cultivates an active community of writers through extracurricular offerings such as the Binghamton Poetry Project, Harpur Palate, the Binghamton Book Awards, Distinguished Writers, Global Imaginary, Common Ground student reading series, faculty and alumni readings, student awards for creative writers, and other opportunities.

Creative Writing at Binghamton University has a storied history, developed through the efforts of Milton Kessler, extended by the vision of John Gardner, and supported over the years by the likes of Ai, Arthur Clements, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, Heather McHugh, Ruth Stone, Barry Targan, John Vernon, and Larry Woiwode, and our current faculty, Tina Chang, Jaimee Wriston Colbert, Thomas Glave,
Leslie Heywood, Liz Rosenberg, Joe Weil, and Alexi Zentner, the Binghamton University Creative Writing Program is proud of the writers who have studied and are studying here.
