Background

Welland's first book, Political Economy and Imperial Governance in Eighteenth-Century Britain (Routledge, 2021) examined economic ideologies as they were generated in moments of imperial crisis, particularly in Canada and Ireland. Her current research focuses on industrial life insurance. Welland teaches surveys of early modern Britain, as well as thematic courses on imperialism, utopian thought, famine, and the English civil wars.
