Advanced certification programs in TESOL
Take your teaching career to the next level with our fully online, graduate Advanced certification programs in TESOL—designed specifically for certified teachers ready to broaden their expertise and open new doors in education.
Prospective students who hold their New York state teacher certification, have a master's degree, and wish to pursue an additional certification, have the opportunity to apply to the 15-credit TESOL CR ITI or Advanced Certificate in ESOL.
We offer two pathways:
- TESOL CR ITI: The Clinically Rich Intensive Teacher Institute (CR ITI) program is an initiative by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to help address the widespread shortage of K-12 English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers in New York public schools. The CR ITI program offers financial support to teachers who are interested in completing the requirements for teaching certification to work with English Learners (ELs) in K-12 environments. Participants complete this program within one calendar year.
- Advanced Certificate in ESOL: Students in the Advanced Certificate in ESOL program take the same coursework as those in the TESOL CR ITI program, without the one-year completion requirement, but they are responsible for full tuition costs.

The Binghamton advantage

After you graduate
The TESOL/TESOL CR ITI advanced certificate programs are designed for certified teachers who are seeking additional New York state certification in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). The 15-credit programs lead to ESOL certification, enabling graduates to teach English learners in pre-K to grade 12 settings. Due to stringent licensure rules, a New York State teaching license is well respected nationwide.
