Privileges and Opportunities

All Binghamton University Scholars are provided the following privileges and opportunities:

  • The opportunity to earn President's Honors (3.5 -4.0) or All-University Honors (3.25-3.49)
  • Opportunities to showcase exemplary academic research or other scholarly works locally and nationally. 
  • Guaranteed choice of any major in any school or college at Binghamton University (must apply by March 15 of freshman year)
  • Early course registration privileges every semester
  • $3500 Binghamton University Scholars Award for research, internships, or study abroad (conditions apply)
  • Opportunities to network with the best minds at Binghamton University and beyond.
  • Scholars Gallery - works of art by our Scholars are prominently displayed 
  • First-year mentoring by top University officials, campus leaders, professors, and key staff members
  • Mentoring all four years by Scholars peers
  • Scholars Living/Learning Community - Live where you learn with other Scholars in the Newing College residential community.
  • Scholars–only courses - with enrollment limits of 20 students or less, and taught by the best minds at Binghamton University.
  • Guthrie Scholars Premedical Internship - spend a semester with physicians, administrators, and medical college students at Guthrie - Robert Packer Hospital. 
  • Priority graduate school admission to all graduate programs at Binghamton University.  Scholars are regarded as the most admissible and exciting students to be recruited to our graduate programs and have historically been the top applicants to the Graduate School. 
  • Scholars Lounge - enjoy a relaxing atmosphere in our unique lounge reserved just for Scholars
  • Scholars Project Lab - reserve the lab to practice a presentation or collaborate with fellow students.  The lab consists of a large conference table, leather chairs, white boards and 60" monitor/tv. 
  • Career and Graduate School Counseling by our own Career Counselor in Residence, dedicated specifically to helping Scholars students make their way into the world of employment and/or graduate school.
  • Leadership opportunities - be a leader on the Scholars Council, as a Scholars Mentor, Scholars Teaching Assistant, or as a member of the Scholar Advisory Board or many other campus organizations and offices.
  • Freshmen Welcome and Induction Banquet and End of Year Awards Dinner
  • Social and professional events - We host fun activities from bowling in Binghamton to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
  • Opportunities to pursue research and scholarly work - Our Undergraduate Research Center helps Scholars connect with experts in their field of study.
  • Scholars Program Assistants, Federal Work Study Scholars, and other Scholars employment - Each year, the Scholars Program offers employment to several Scholars undergraduates
  • Scholars Teaching Assistants - each semester, several Scholars students are selected to work one-on-one with professors  teaching Scholars courses
  • Receive invitations to participate in networking and campus events - typically preceded by special receptions with faculty, University leaders, alumni, other students to spark your continued intellectual development.
