Customize your School of Management graduate degree
Graduate students in Binghamton University's School of Management can customize their degree to meet their career goals by choosing from a variety of elective courses in areas such as accounting, business analytics, entrepreneurship, finance, leadership and consulting, management information systems, and marketing.
MBA students
School of Management MBA candidates can customize their curriculum with electives to meet the specific needs of their desired post-grad positions, or by declaring a concentration and completing the required coursework.
MS Accounting and PharmD-MBA students
While MS Accounting and PharmD-MBA students are not able to declare a concentration, they can select electives that align with their academic interests and career goals.
MBA Concentrations
Students in the MBA program may choose to take elective courses in any one of the business disciplines to enrich their course of study. Only students who have earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from a U.S. college are eligible to register for ACCT courses at the graduate level.
While not required, many students in the MBA program choose to complete a concentration. There are six concentrations currently offered. Full course curricula can be found below.
Business Analytics
Students in the business analytics concentration will learn how to use modern technologies
and data analysis techniques to engage in strategic decision-making and make projections
of future outcomes.
Entrepreneurship
The entrepreneurship concentration provides students with practical skills for creating,
managing, and sustaining new ventures — such as developing products, crafting business
plans, securing resources, and marketing innovations. Graduates are prepared for careers
across a range of industries, with emphasis on equipping them for roles as business
owners, consultants, or business development managers.
Finance
The finance concentration provides students the opportunity to learn about core money
management principles for businesses, firms, governments, and individuals. Emphasis
is placed on the utilization of analytical tools to engage in effective operational
and investment strategies.
Leadership and Consulting
The leadership and consulting concentration is for students interested in understanding
the dynamics of people in organizations and how to communicate effectively as a leader
in order to create systemic change. Students will learn the fundamentals of creating
a culture of adaptability and responsiveness to the organization's changing needs.
Management Information Systems
The management information systems concentration focuses on how people can use technology
to manage business information. Emphasis is on the design and implementation of business
information systems aimed at increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
Marketing
Students in the marketing concentration learn the fundamentals of studying consumer
behavior in order to make data-driven, integrated marketing decisions. Coursework
emphasizes brand markets, competitors, and product portfolios in today's highly competitive
global market.
Graduate elective courses
MBA, MS Accounting, and PharmD-MBA students can select from graduate electives across School of Management disciplines, subject to individual program requirements, prerequisites, and course availability.
Note: Only students who have earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from a U.S. college are eligible to register for ACCT courses at the graduate level.
