Be a social media ambassador

If you're active on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram, join the GreenMachine — Binghamton's social media ambassador program — and earn free Binghamton gear by doing something you already enjoy. 

There's no cost to participate. Register for the GreenMachine and link the account to your social media sites. The University is constantly posting links to alumni, student and faculty news stories. Share those posts on your social media to earn points toward Binghamton swag. You can also get points for recruiting friends. GreenMachine members are entered into monthly drawings for gift cards.

"Signing up is quick and easy. It's very simple to connect GreenMachine to your personal platforms and you get to choose which ones are linked," said Tasha Thomas '02, MA '03, member of the Alumni Association board and its Networking and Social Engagement Committee.

"Depending on the content, I'll either share on Twitter or LinkedIn.," she added. "As alumni, we're representatives of our alma mater, so why not be an ambassador to highlight and advance the incredible work of our students, faculty and staff?"

Being part of the GreenMachine helps you stay current on what's happening at Binghamton, Thomas said. And it's a great way to connect with the University and be helpful if you don't have free time to volunteer or if you live far from campus. GreenMachine works from anywhere in the world, and sharing social media posts can be done quickly.

"The past year has been so difficult for us all," Thomas said. "We've been so cut off from the people and places that mean so much to us. Connection has become such an important principle and, fortunately, technology can help us to keep connections going. I encourage our alumni to stay connected through GreenMachine. It's a phenomenal and easy way to convey and experience Bing pride."

"One thing we've learned this year is through technology, social media and electronic communication, we can still meaningfully engage other alumni and keep in touch with what’s happening at Binghamton even when we couldn’t have traditional events," said Larry Stein '88, a member of the Alumni Association board and chair of its Networking and Social Engagement Committee. "GreenMachine will continue to enhance that, and even as we return to in-person events and engagement, the place for GreenMachine is clear as social networking and remote participation with Binghamton and alumni will grow and become a permanent part of how we all interact."
