Education certificates

Adolescence Special Education
Designed for students who possess an initial New York state teacher certification and seek initial and professional certification in Students with Disabilities (SWD) 7-12 Generalist with eligibility for the SWD content area extension.

Community Schools
Offered entirely online, this program can be completed in one year of part-time study. Community schools are a strategy for organizing school and community resources around student success.

Educational Leadership
This program, open to experienced educators from pre-K to high school, prepares prospective educational leaders to serve in pre-K through grade 12 schools and school districts.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Designed for teachers certified or becoming certified and who are seeking New York state certification in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages), our TESOL program is for students who possess initial New York state teacher certification in early childhood, childhood, middle childhood, adolescent education, literacy or special education.

Human Rights

Advanced Certificate in Human Rights
The Advanced Certificate in Human Rights provides students with an introduction to core aspects of human rights practice, with a focus on community-level engagement. Offered by the Department of Human Development, the 16-credit program outlines an interdisciplinary framework for incorporating human rights approaches into scholarly and professional development.

Public Administration certificates

Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention (GMAP)
This program will educate and train students in the current range of practices designed to identify populations or groups at risk of mass political violence, and to intervene to prevent or reduce the risk of such violence. 

Local Government Management
Students in this program are provided an overview of forms, structures, functions and services of local government. The course of study emphasizes leadership skills, board administration, performance management, strategy development and public participation. A variety of important financial management topics will be covered.  

Nonprofit Management
This certificate program provides students with an introduction to core aspects of management and leadership in the nonprofit sector, including an introduction to essential aspects of nonprofit management, an overview of current policy and management issues, and the development of critical analytical skills.
