BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will play host to two technology events in April: The first-ever Energy Innovation Day and then the first New York edition of TECHSTORM.

Energy Innovation Day, planned April 17, will feature speakers and panels on alternative energy research and education, tours of campus facilities and an evening reception. TECHSTORM participants will join in the reception and then pick up the following day, with “speed dating” for inventors and entrepreneurs. Both events will be held at the University’s new Engineering and Science Building at the Innovative Technologies Complex on Murray Hill Road in Vestal.

Energy Innovation Day, sponsored by the New York State Center of Excellence in Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging, industry partners and Binghamton University’s Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships, will bring students, researchers and companies together to discuss emergent alternative energy technologies, energy-conservation research, issues in education and training and R&D collaborations. “Binghamton has nationally recognized experts in energy-efficient electronic systems, solar energy, energy storage and materials research,” said Eugene Krentsel, assistant vice president for entrepreneurship and innovation partnerships at Binghamton University. “Energy Innovation Day will showcase our passion, commitment and expertise in this field, underscoring our interest in connecting to collaborators from industry and government.”

TECHSTORM, the first national event focused exclusively on matching innovative university technologies with entrepreneurs and corporate representatives, is designed for university inventors, entrepreneurs and corporate representatives. The event will feature technology presentations and a fast-paced matchmaking session for the entrepreneurs and university representatives.

“Many entrepreneurs are looking for high-potential technologies that can be the basis of their next startup,” TECHSTORM founder Gerard Eldering said. “Universities have those technologies but find it difficult to get connected with these entrepreneurs, and through them to private sources of capital. TECHSTORM creates a unique opportunity for these groups to meet.”

Krentsel said he’s also excited to bring TECHSTORM to New York. “Upstate New York has a remarkable number of highly innovative research universities,” he said. “TECHSTORM provides a unique forum for Binghamton and the other sponsoring institutions to put innovative platform technologies on a fast track to becoming job-creating startups.”
