BINGHAMTON, NY -- Binghamton University students from the School of Management’s Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) Scholars program will host a bookmobile community service project starting at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the St. Thomas Aquinas School, 3 Aquinas Street in Binghamton.

Binghamton University students will spend close to a full day prepping and finishing the bookmobile, a bus that was provided by St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, for the students of MacArthur Elementary School, who have been displaced by the recent flood and are without a library at either of their temporary locations. The renovations will include staining and installing bookshelves, providing seating for the students inside the bus, carpeting the floor, and finishing the outside and inside designs of the bus.

Throughout the day, students from St. Thomas will be invited outside after lunch to play, make bookmarks, and have their photo taken with the bus.

Upon completion of renovations, the keys to the bus will be handed over to the Binghamton City School District, who will take possession of the bus for the rest of its useful life, while students of MacArthur, who will be displaced for at least another 3 years, will be able to receive the full benefits of having a library.

This “library on wheels” will travel between the two temporary MacArthur Elementary School locations, St. Thomas and St. Francis, 1051 Chenango Street in Binghamton.

The PwC Scholars have raised money for this cause throughout the year, by hosting events and fundraising efforts.  For more information, contact PwC Scholars President, Katie Orr, at 516-633-0476 or korr1@binghamton.edu.
