BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University will host the final poster session for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in Smart Energy from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, in the rotunda of the Innovative Technologies Complex, 85 Murray Hill Road, Vestal.

For the second year, the REU program has supported 10 undergraduate students participating in advanced research projects with Binghamton University faculty and graduate students. Students worked for nine weeks during the summer on projects ranging from advanced battery electrode materials and nanomaterials for super capacitors, to thin films for advanced solar cells and photovoltaics. The science and engineering students were selected from a pool of over 60 students from across the United States.

In addition to their research, students participated in professional development programs focusing on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers, smart energy, program management and graduate school. Current students come from the University of Notre Dame, Binghamton University, Colgate University, SUNY Oneonta and Russell Sage College.

In its second year of funding, the Smart Energy REU program is supported by the National Science Foundation and coordinated by the Center for Autonomous Solar Power (CASP) at Binghamton University.
