BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Center for Writers, Creative Writing Program at Binghamton University and the Binghamton Poetry Project have been awarded a total of $5,170 in grants by two area arts organizations. This funding, along with support from the English Department and Office of the Dean of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, will help support the 2014 Binghamton Poetry Project’s community poetry workshops.

The Broome County Arts Council’s United Cultural Fund granted the poetry project $1,000, and the Chenango Arts Council’s Broome, Chenango & Otsego Decentralization Program awarded the center $4,170 to underwrite the poetry project.

The Binghamton Poetry Project is a literary outreach program that aims to educate young people and adults on how to write and read more creatively. Its mission is to enhance art awareness and literacy, and to use poetry to make connections between the University and the Greater Binghamton community.
