BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University announced Wednesday a gift of $1 million from prominent local physician and Binghamton University Foundation Board of Directors member Dr. Bai Lee to benefit the Department of Athletics.

This gift will support facility enhancements that will positively impact students, athletes and coaching, including benefits to the strength and conditioning program, the sports medicine team, the Student Success Center and more. It is the largest gift the Binghamton University Athletics Department has received to date.

"We are grateful to Dr. Lee for this gift, which will make certain that our student athletes have the resources needed to be successful.  Moreover, it helps ensure that the Department of Athletics continues to flourish as a significant aspect of a Binghamton University education, " said Harvey Stenger, Binghamton University president.

This remarkable gift helps put our Division 1 athletics program on par with other successful programs in our conference," said Patrick Elliott, director of athletics. "This generous gift will benefit the Athletics Department for years to come."

In honor of his generosity, the University will name the Events Center court the Dr. Bai Lee Court. The official unveiling will take place prior to the men’s basketball game vs. Army, starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.

"I owe so much of my success to the local community, and I see Binghamton University as a positive force in the Binghamton area today," said Lee. "I hope this gift inspires others who are appreciative of this wonderful community to show their support and give back."

Lee is the president of Lee Health Care, and senior attending gynecologist at UHS and Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital. He completed his post-graduate training and fellowship at New York Medical College. He served as director of the Perinatal Center at United Health Services in 1972, and became a partner at the Southern Tier Ob-Gyn Group in 1975. In 2000, he established the Lee and Yum Foundation for charity and education.
