Decker College's Division of Advising and Academic Excellence hires high-achieving
nursing students to serve as peer advisors and student ambassadors.
Peer advisors assist with day-to-day office tasks and offer regularly scheduled walk-in hours to
assist current and prospective Decker students.
Student ambassadors represent the division at special events such as prospective student Q&A sessions
and open house events.

Peer advisors
Peer advisors undergo extensive training and have a thorough knowledge of the admissions
process, program requirements, registration processes and policies, as well as the
Binghamton campus and support services. Their firsthand experiences at Binghamton
University and in Decker College make them ideally suited to assist prospective and
current nursing students with a range of issues.
Student ambassadors
Student ambassadors have extensive knowledge of our undergraduate and graduate programs,
admissions process, the Binghamton campus and available support services. They are
extensively trained to answer prospective and admitted students' questions, share
their firsthand experiences and assist with staffing special events.
Meet our student staff
Chris
Chris, peer advisor and student ambassador Hometown: Valhalla, N.Y. Class: junior
Chris was admitted into Decker as a first-year student and this is his second year
serving as a peer advisor and student ambassador. He participates in nursing research
through the Interdisciplinary Tobacco Use and Research Program. He is also serving
as vice president of the Nursing Student Association and works as a patient care technician
at a local hospital.
Flora
Flora, peer advisor Hometown: New York, N.Y. Class: junior
Flora was admitted to Decker College as an intra-university transfer student and this
is her first year as a peer advisor. She is an active member of the Vietnamese Student
Union and Imagination Craft Works on campus.
Gerard
Gerard, peer advisor Hometown: Tuxedo, N.Y. Class: senior Minor: health and wellness studies
Gerard was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and this is his third
year as a peer advisor. He is involved in both the Mary E. Mahoney Nursing Support
Group and the Nursing Student Association, where he serves as the social chair.
Grace
Grace, peer advisor and student ambassador Hometown: Oakdale, N.Y. Class: senior Minor: health and wellness studies
Grace was admitted to Decker as an intra-university transfer student and this is her
first year as both a peer advisor and student ambassador. She serves as a Mindset
Mentor, is president of the Harpur Harpeggios A Cappella Group, and is the community
chair for the Nursing Student Association.
Hannah
Hannah, student ambassador Hometown: Lowville, N.Y. Class: BAT
Hannah is a student in the Baccalaureate Accelerated Track (BAT) program and this
is her first year as a Decker student ambassador. Previously, she earned a degree
in biological sciences from Binghamton and served as an undergraduate admissions student
ambassador. She is a member of the BU Pep Band and has been involved with research
on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the Kreiss Lab.
Han
Han, student ambassador Hometown: New York, N.Y. Class: BAT
Han is a student in the Baccalaureate Accelerated Track (BAT) program and this is
his first year as a Decker student ambassador. Previously, he earned a bachelor’s
degree in chemistry from CUNY Hunter College.
Kaylee
Kaylee, student ambassador Hometown: Farmingville, N.Y. Class: junior Minor: health and wellness studies
Kaylee was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and this is her first
year as a student ambassador. She is a member of the Binghamton University Dance Team
and serves as secretary of the Nursing Student Association.
Lauren was admitted to Decker as a first-year student and this is her second year
as a peer advisor. She enjoys volunteering, is a member of the MedLife Club and is
also a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority.
Madison
Madison, peer advisor and student ambassador Hometown: Seaford, N.Y. Class: junior Double degree: psychology
Madison was admitted to Decker College as a double degree student; she is working
toward a nursing degree and a psychology degree. This is her first year as a peer
advisor and student ambassador. She is a researcher in the Human Sexualities Lab on
campus, as well as a member of the Scholars Program. Madison is also involved with
TOPSoccer and Binghamton Aiding Hearts.
Maeve was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student. This is her second year
as a peer advisor and her first year as a student ambassador. She is an active member
of the Binghamton University Running Club, volunteers at a local community center
and also serves as a patient care technician at a local hospital.
Maria
Maria, peer advisor Hometown: Warwick, N.Y. Class: junior
Maria entered Decker College as an intra-university transfer student and is starting
her first year as a peer advisor. She is involved with Uni-Buddies, Snow Cats and
BU Science. She is also completing an independent study of biofilms and works as a
pharmacy technician.
Michelle
Michelle, peer advisor and student ambassador Hometown: Yorktown Heights, NY Class: senior Minor: forensic health
Michelle entered Decker College as a first-year student and this is her third year
as a peer advisor and student ambassador. She is actively involved in A Cappella and
the Nursing Student Association, and recently completed a summer internship at White
Plains Hospital.
Sam
Samantha, student ambassador Hometown: Smithtown, NY Class: senior Minor: health and wellness studies
Samantha was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and this is her second
year as a Decker student ambassador. Since her sophomore year, she has been involved
in nursing research on the topic of attitudes and perceptions of vaping in adolescents.
She is also a member of a sorority.
Sarah
Sarah, student ambassador Hometown: Roslyn Heights, NY Class: junior Double degree: English Minor: education
Sarah was admitted to Decker College as a first-year, double degree student; she is
also pursuing a degree in English. This is her first year as a student ambassador.
Sarah volunteers with BU Science, serves as vice president of Jewish Life for Hillel
and works at the COVID Surveillance Testing Site on campus. Sarah enjoys working at
her local public library and summer camps.
Tara
Tara, student ambassador Hometown: Farmingdale, NY Class: BAT
Tara is a student in the Baccalaureate Accelerated Track (BAT) program and this is
her first year as a Decker student ambassador. She holds a degree in integrative neuroscience
with a minor in health and wellness studies from Binghamton. She has been involved
with many organizations including Delta Phi Epsilon, Panhellenic Council, the Binghamton
University Running Club and Best Buddies. Tara has also worked for the Decker Student
Health Services Center.
