Decker student staff

Decker College's Division of Advising and Academic Excellence hires high-achieving nursing students to serve as peer advisors and student ambassadors.

  • Peer advisors assist with day-to-day office tasks and offer regularly scheduled walk-in hours to assist current and prospective Decker students.
  • Student ambassadors represent the division at special events such as prospective student Q&A sessions and open house events.

Peer advisors

Peer advisors undergo extensive training and have a thorough knowledge of the admissions process, program requirements, registration processes and policies, as well as the Binghamton campus and support services. Their firsthand experiences at Binghamton University and in Decker College make them ideally suited to assist prospective and current nursing students with a range of issues.

Student ambassadors

Student ambassadors have extensive knowledge of our undergraduate and graduate programs, admissions process, the Binghamton campus and available support services. They are extensively trained to answer prospective and admitted students' questions, share their firsthand experiences and assist with staffing special events.

Alyssa

Alyssa, peer advisor and student ambassador
Hometown: New Windsor, N.Y.
Class: senior
Minors: health and wellness studies, forensic health

Alyssa was admitted into Decker as a first-year student and is returning as a third-year peer advisor and student ambassador. In addition to serving as president of the Nursing Student Association, she has been involved in nursing research for two semesters.

Chris

Chris, peer advisor and student ambassador
Hometown: Valhalla, N.Y.
Class: sophomore

Chris was admitted into Decker as a first-year student and this is his first year serving as a peer advisor and student ambassador. He is currently serving as treasurer of the Nursing Student Association.

Danielle

Danielle, peer advisor and student ambassador
Hometown: Wantagh, N.Y.
Class: senior

Danielle entered Decker College as a sophomore transfer and is now a second-year peer advisor and student ambassador. On campus, she is involved in the Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority, the American Red Cross Association and the Nursing Student Association.

Emily

Emily, student ambassador
Hometown: Bethpage, N.Y.
Class: senior
Minor: health and wellness studies

Emily was admitted to Decker as a first-year student and this is her first year as a student ambassador. In addition to serving as vice president of the Nursing Student Association, she is head of fundraising for Wishmakers on campus. Emily has worked as a lifeguard for five years; she enjoys swimming, reading, biking and hiking.

Gerard

Gerard was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and this is his second year as a peer advisor. He is involved in both the Nursing Student Association and the Mary E. Mahoney Nursing Support Group.

Kate

Kate, peer advisor and student ambassador
Hometown: Washingtonville, N.Y.
Class: senior

Kate was admitted to Decker as an Intra-University Transfer student and this is her first year as both a peer advisor and student ambassador. She participates in Women’s Club Lacrosse, Women’s Club Soccer and the Nursing Student Association.

Lauren

Class: junior
Minor: Spanish

Lauren was admitted to Decker as a first-year student and this is her first year as a peer advisor. She enjoys participating in community service, is a member of the MedLife Club and serves as vice president of programming for the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority.

Maeve

Class: junior

Maeve was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and is joining the Division of Advising as a first-year peer ambassador. She currently serves as co-president of the Binghamton University Running Club and is involved in community service through the Public Service Learning Community.

Mariah

Mariah entered Decker College as a first-year student and is starting her second year as a peer advisor and student ambassador. She is involved in Binghamton Students for Autism Acceptance, the Nursing Student Association and the American Red Cross Club.

Michelle entered Decker College as a first-year student and this is her second year as a peer advisor and student ambassador. She is also involved in A Cappella.

Minor: health and wellness studies

Samantha was admitted to Decker College as a first-year student and is a first-year student ambassador. She is a member of Delta Phi Epsilon, works for the Binghamton Telefund and is involved in nursing research on campus.
