  • Longitudinal fall risk evaluation of community dwelling older adults

    What this study is about

    Providing annual wellness checkups to older adults through evaluations of cognitive, balance and fall-risk assessments within nine Broome County senior centers.

    What the study will involve

    Single- and dual-task gait using an instrumented walkway; standing balance under eyes open/closed as well as firm/compliant surfaces; cognitive performance; depression; self-reported fear of falling, morbidity and medications; hand-held grip strength; activity level and fall history; surveys.

    Eligibility to participate

    • Adults over age 55
    • Able to ambulate at least 14 feet with or without assistive devices
    • No visual impairment not correctable with lenses

    Compensation or services participants will receive

    Participants will receive a wellness checkup and a $15 gift card.

  • A comparison of motor and cognitive performance in a driving simulator among young adults following mTBI

    What this study is about

    Investigating motor, cognitive and driving performance in young adults after a mild traumatic brain injury or concussion. The overall goal is to inform better return-to-driving decision-making.

    What the study will involve

    Single and dual-task walking; posturography or standing balance under six conditions; driving performance in a simulated autonomous driving system.

    Eligibility to participate

    To participate in the study, individuals must:

    • Be 16 years old or older
    • Possess a current, valid U.S. driver’s license
    • If diagnosed with a concussion, you should have the physician’s diagnosis of the concussion 

    Compensation or services participants will receive

    $15 gift card
