Critical Thinking Lab FAQs

What is the Critical Thinking Lab (CTL)?
We comprise a team of writing consultants armed with specialized training in philosophy and critical thinking. Our services include one-on-one tutoring & in-class writing workshops.
Where is the Critical Thinking Lab?
Our office recently moved to the 11th floor of Library Tower, Room 1116.
Can I schedule an appointment as a non-philosophy student?
Yes! Our critical thinking services are available to all Binghamton students. However, if you are seeking subject-matter expertise beyond the field of philosophy, we cannot guarantee a perfect match.
Do I get extra credit for utilizing CTL services?
Maybe. Check the course syllabus for your assignment. When in doubt, ask your instructor or teaching assistant.
Should I go to the CTL or the Writing Center on campus?
Both. Our consultants undergo specialized training in methods of reasoning, rendering them particularly adept at aiding with argumentative projects. The Writing Center's services, on the other hand, encompass a broader spectrum, potentially offering greater expertise in the domains of style and mechanics.
What should I do if I can't make my scheduled appointment?
We ask that you cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 3 hours in advance. Check your confirmation email for more information. If you must cancel at the last minute, please email your consultant.
