Respiratory Protection

EHS Respiratory Protection and Use

To participate in the respiratory protection program:

  1. Fill out the Respiratory Medical Evaluation Questionnaire and email it to the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, Bridget McCane-Saunders (bmccane@binghamton.edu). Forms will be reviewed by a medical professional.
  2. Watch the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) training video. This provides an excellent overview of donning and doffing of PPE. At the conclusion of the training there is a short quiz. Use this link to access PPE Training.
  3. Contact the EH&S office at 607-777-2211 to schedule a fit test.
  4. Arrive at the EH&S office located in the Decker Building on time and ready to be fit tested. You cannot have any facial hair or stubble. The EH&S Office is in the lower level of the Decker Health Services building.

Fit Test Disclaimer: A fit test will not be conducted if there is any hair growth between the skin and the facepiece sealing surface, such as stubble, beard growth, beard, light mustache, or sideburns, which cross the respirator sealing surface. Any type of apparel which interferes with a satisfactory fit should be altered or removed.

If you have facial hair and need to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program and have facial hair, please review the below link for facial hair styles that are allowed by NIOSH/CDC.
