ELP Mentors

ELP Mentor Information

Are you interested in helping incoming students get involved and grow while improving your own leadership and interpersonal skills? The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) Mentor application process occurs every spring semester, and includes a B-Engaged application form and interview. Students do not need to have participated in ELP themselves to apply to be an ELP Mentor.

ELP Mentors:

  • Act as a role model and support for their Knowledge Community (KC) members, aiding in the incoming first year and transfer students’ transition to Binghamton University
    • Meet one-on-one with every student in the KC at least once during the semester
  • Plan and facilitate weekly KC meetings with their co-mentor and faculty and staff advisors
    • Discuss leadership and leadership skills
    • Guide the Service Learning Project process
  • Attend and help facilitate the program-wide events
  • Attend a weekly mentor class (Fridays, 2:30-4:00pm)
  • Attend training in the spring semester and before the fall semester in August

Mentors can expect to spend 6 hours per week on ELP activities, and earn 2 teaching practicum credits.
