Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships
The E&IP office at Binghamton University seeks to foster and promote entrepreneurship both on and off campus. We provide resources to aid in the success of local entrepreneurs; students, faculty, staff and community members alike. We provide Intellectual Property protection through our Technology Transfer team at our on-campus location. In Downtown Binghamton, the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator serves as a hub for small business in the area, providing space and programming to guide start-ups forward.
Every day brilliant minds are creating, tinkering and experimenting to produce positive change in the world. Binghamton University houses the talent to create world-class innovation and we are here to help protect it. When faculty, students or staff create an invention, the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships serves as the campus resource to help assess, protect and leverage the underlying intellectual property rights. We aim to secure and scale your invention whether it is coming from the lab, office or even the garage.
The Technology Transfer team actively promotes and licenses the intellectual property it protects by utilizing a cutting-edge portfolio by the startup Resolute Innovation. The team promotes its vast array of technologies with help from Resolute's Artificial Intelligence integration, using machine learning to commercialize its portfolio like never-before-seen.
When professors want to bring entrepreneurial thinking into their classrooms, we're there to help. With the ability to provide resources and insight, inquire as to how entrepreneurship can relate to a vast array of curriculum.
Our office can connect you to resources available through programs such as Start-Up NY, the Small Business Development Center, the region's Trade Adjustment Assistance Center, campus Start-Up Suites and the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator. We also match companies with Binghamton scientists and engineers to team up on proposals of interest to one or more of the 11 federal agencies participating in the Small Business Innovative Research and Small Business Technology Transfer program (SBIR/STTR).
One beautiful element of entrepreneurship is its ability to cross industry, interests and individuals. Entrepreneurship cannot exist in a bubble, this ecosystem is comprised of innumerous backgrounds. We say: you can make a positive change through entrepreneurship. Yes, you! See how our office is capable of helping you.
START-UP NY will foster entrepreneurialism and job creation on a large scale by transforming public higher education through tax-free communities across the state, particularly upstate.

Greater Binghamton Scholastic Challenge
The Greater Binghamton Scholastic Challenge (GBSC) allows students in grades 9 through 12 to develop ideas and businesses that impact the community. Students form teams, write comprehensive business plans and then present their ideas at the final competition. Eleven school districts and over 200 students participate in this event every year. The winning team receives scholarship money to start its business or use for college. We are proud to be a sponsor of this growing program. To participate in the program, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a regular attender of most networking events around town, Breaking Down the Silos is, in my opinion, hands-down the number one entrepreneurial networking event in the region. What sets Silos apart for me is the caliber of interactions it provides. This is not just another mixer. "Quality people and quality conversations," is how I describe it to fellow entrepreneurs. At Breaking Down the Silos, I have not only connected with new clients and new collaborators, but moreover, I have made new friends. I also love hearing about the new businesses that are launching everyday in our area. It is impossible to come away from a "Silos" feeling anything but inspired! I look forward to Silos every month, and make room for it no matter what else is on my calendar. Not only has Silos grown my business network, it has allowed me to connect regularly with our amazing entrepreneurial community in a way that few other events do. In fact, I encourage all my clients to attend! Huge thanks to the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships and the whole team who make this incredible event possible!Rtistry By Design - Rachel Jenks
