Who can take this course: The course is approved for 6 professional development hours (PDH) for professional engineers and is also open to all professionals, faculty, staff and students.

Credentials: You will earn a Micro-credential in Ergonomics Foundations and receive the Ergonomics Foundations Badge if you complete and pass the course assignment which will be availble at the end of the course.  Professional Engineers will receive a certificate with 6 Professional Development Hours.

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will highlight the value that human factors and ergonomics can add to the design process as well as the production operations. Students will learn the basic concepts of human factors (also known as human factor engineering) and ergonomics as well as the commons tools, terms, and concepts used in both methodologies. Students will be exposed to how to integrate human factors and ergonomics principles into design and development operations and as well as the best practices and effective tools for using these principles in the manufacturing and production operations.

The course will discuss the reasoning for using human factors and ergonomics, the benefits it can provide the design and production operations, but also common barriers towards using human factors and ergonomics in these settings; best practices will be shared to help the students understand how to effective use human factors and ergonomics tools and principles in their work environments.

In addition to didactic components, the course will use case studies, exercises, and discussion in order to deliver the material in the most effective manner and to make the seminar an interactive session.

• How to account for human error in your design and production operations.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Brian J. Galli holds a doctoral degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, earned December 2013. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York State and holds a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt. His major field of study is continuous improvement in healthcare settings as well as deployment of continuous improvement and project management. He works as an Assistant Professor of Management Engineering at Long Island University–Post. He also owns Apex Strategies, Ltd, a company that that specializes in continuous improvement consulting and training initiatives. He has over 9 years of experience in applying industrial engineering and continuous improvement tools and concepts in a wide variety of arenas, including healthcare, manufacturing, transactional, and service environments.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

1. All cancellations must be received in writing by 9 am on the day of course start to receive a refund.
2. Cancellations of confirmed registrations are subject to a $20 administrative fee. No refunds for cancellations or non-attendance will be given after the start date.
3. Substitutions may be made any time before the beginning of the course by informing the Office of Industrial Outreach.
4. If the course is canceled, enrollees will be advised and receive a full refund.
