Surface Science Core Facility (SSCF)

The Surface Science Core Facility (SSCF) is a new multi-use laboratory providing instrumentation that supports research and education in materials science, physics, and chemistry. Established in 2023, the SSCF operates under the Analytical and Diagnostics Laboratory (ADL), part of the S3IP Center of Excellence. The SSCF occupies 3,000 square feet in the basement of the Center of Excellence Building at the Innovative Technologies Complex.

The lab includes the following resources:

  • Hard & Soft X-ray Photolelectron Spectroscopy (HAXPES/XPS)
  • X-ray Absorption & Emission Spectroscopy (XAS/XES)
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
  • Raman Spectroscopy
  • Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM)
  • Stylus & Optical Profilometry
  • Laser Particle Size Analyzer
  • Argon Glovebox
