Tom has twenty-five years of Federal law enforcement experience, starting as a US Border Patrol agent in south Texas in 1997. In 2003, he graduated as a Special Agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) National Academy and was assigned to the Detroit Field Division. From 2008 to 2011 Tom was assigned to ATF National Headquarters in Washington, DC where he served as an ATF representative to FEMA’s ESF-13 while stationed in DC. In 2011, Tom transferred to the ATF Buffalo Field Office and served as an ATF Tactical Medic, completed basic medic training program at Johns Hopkins and completed Tactical Medic school at the US Secret Service Academy. Tom has also served as an ATF Firearms Instructor, was a certified Expert Witness specializing in firearms and ammunition point of manufacture, and was assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Tom has been the lead investigator on numerous firearms trafficking, narcotics trafficking, and explosive incident investigations. Tom started as Buffalo State’s Emergency Manager in April 2022.
