Program Overview
Do you want to be a leader helping to make the world a better place where natural resources are protected and people have access to safe housing, uncontaminated food and reliable public services? If so, you’ll be right at home in Binghamton’s Master’s in Sustainable Communities program. Sustainability is one of the fastest-growing fields in our society, and Binghamton’s program is the first within the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of the few of its kind in the country.

In our highly customizable master’s program, students, develop effective analytical, leadership, and communication skills, preparing them to become skilled problem solvers and policymakers. Our curriculum includes broad sustainability concepts applicable in both the public and private sectors.
We engage sustainability professionals, citizens, and local officials — in the classroom and in the field. Community engagement is vital and we have done professional projects for the local public transit agency, housing authority and numerous municipalities.
After You Graduate
Our graduates include public officials, community leaders, managers and planners, and are at the forefront of creating clean, equitable and economically vital communities. Think of our program as public service for the planet!
