What is the ELP?

Students attend weekly Knowledge Community (KC) meetings led by trained student mentors, a faculty advisor, and a staff advisor. During these meetings, they create connections with one another, discuss and develop leadership skills, and plan a service learning project (SLP) with a local community partner. There are also various program-wide events and a leadership workshop series held throughout the semester. Students who complete the program receive a university sponsored microcredential and leadership certificate.

Participants must complete the following to earn an ELP microcredential:

  • Attend and participate in weekly hour-long Knowledge Community meetings
  • Attend and participate in program-wide events
  • Attend and participate in the LEAD workshop series
  • Create a service learning project with their KC in collaboration with a local community partner
  • Meet one-on-one with each of their mentors and advisors at least once during the semester
  • Submit a final microcredential reflection

Participants can expect to spend an average of 2 hours per week on ELP activities. Some weeks will have more commitments (e.g. an extra workshop or program-wide event) than others. It is important to note that participants will need to meet outside of their weekly hour-long KC meetings to work on the SLP.
