Frequently Asked Questions for School of Management Graduate Programs
Below are answers to some of the most common questions asked about graduate programs in Binghamton University's School of Management.
MBA FAQs
What is the difference between the one-year STEM MBA option and the two-year STEM MBA option?
- Prerequisite coursework: The one-year STEM MBA option requires applicants to have taken microeconomics and statistics before enrolling. The four-semester MBA option does not require these courses as prerequisites.
- Summer courses: The one-year MBA option has an online summer session from early June to early August. If you are not available to take classes synchronously during this timeframe, you will not be eligible for this program. The four-semester MBA option does not involve summer courses.
- Career considerations: The one-year STEM MBA program does not require an internship experience. If you are unsure of your future career path, we recommend pursuing the four-semester MBA option, as it gives you more time to explore career paths and complete an internship where you will develop the connections and experiences needed to help launch your career.
Can I start the One-Year (12-month) MBA program option in the fall or in the spring?
No, the 12-month MBA program option only begins in the summer and runs from June to May.
I'm an undergraduate business major. Which MBA program should I pursue?

Why do I need to complete an Excel certificate before enrolling in the MBA program?
Excel proficiency is a foundational skill across all business careers. In addition to preparing you for core business courses and advanced Excel-based electives, earning a certificate demonstrates your competency and can strengthen your résumé—potentially giving you an edge during recruitment.
Am I required to complete an internship in the MBA program?
Two-year MBA students are required to participate in a career-related internship prior to finishing the program. This ensures students graduate with the connections and experiences needed to help launch their career.
