Watson College is partnering with the Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Workforce Development program, which is offered by the New York State Department of Labor One Workforce Grant. About the courses
Introduction to Sustainable Engineering
There are two growing trends on our planet: population growth and a shift towards urbanization. Both trends are threatening the sustainability of our species.
Topics to be covered in the course: Making the case for sustainability; climate change and decision making under uncertainty; sustainable agriculture issues; water and sustainable development; sustainability and energy.
Smart Cities
Major technological, economic and environmental changes taking place worldwide are factors driving the interest in smart cities.
Topics to be covered in the course: The 20th century and the rise of cities in the 21st century; the changing U.S. urban landscape; what is a smart city and examples of prominent city concept.
Universe of Energy
Energy may be the most important factor that will influence the shape of society in the 21st century. The cost and availability of energy significantly affects our quality of life.
Topics to be covered in the course: Resources of the earth such as coal, oil, and natural gas; renewable sources, solar and wind as well as hydropower, biomass, waves and tides, geothermal; fission and fusion energy; socio-political issues of energy.
Energy Fundamentals for the Practicing Engineer
Energy fundamentals to be covered include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer as well as the principles of modeling and analysis.
Topics to be covered in the course: Energy fundamentals applied to modeling and analysis for solar, wind, hydropower, and nuclear energy systems.
