Instructor and Teaching Assistant Guidelines

UTC Exam Scheduling Requirements

To make an appointment with the UTC, Instructors and/or TAs must adhere to the following:

  • Submit a exam scheduling request through RegisterBlast. Directions on how to make a reservation can be found on our Binghamton Instructors webpage.
    • Requests for proctoring must specify a set, unaccommodated length of time that is equivalent to the time provided to all students in the classroom. The UTC cannot proctor assessments without set time limits or those designated as 'unlimited time' exams, as detailed in our Unlimited Time Policy.
    • If you require proctoring accommodations for more than twenty (20) students, please contact the UTC for assistance.
  • Arrange for the prompt arrival and collection of exam materials.
  • Follow the Electronic Exam Materials Policy regarding the printing and scanning of exams.
  • Remain available (e.g., via phone call, text, or email) during the exam to answer student questions.
  • Promptly inform the UTC during exam administration of any errors found on the exam, any announcements made in class, and/or any changes to the administration of the exam (extending time, providing additional formulas, etc.).

Additional Policies:

  • The UTC requests two (2) business days notice for exam requests, whenever possible. Appointments are processed based on availability and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Exams with advanced notice are more likely to be accepted.
  • Students disregarding center guidelines, acting suspiciously, or suspected of cheating will be reported to their instructor and may be subject to disciplinary action.
  • Students can ask Testing Center staff for clarification on instructions only. Testing Center staff will contact the instructor with any questions or concerns brought to their attention during test administration.
  • The UTC is closed and proctoring is unavailable during University Holidays and when classes are cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • The University Testing Center regularly interacts with a large number of individuals at risk for serious illness, including those who are immunocompromised. For the safety of our students, faculty, and staff; the UTC is unable to proctor students who are currently ill. Test-takers must be fever-free for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications, before coming to our office. Students with a fever, experiencing respiratory or GI symptoms, or with a positive diagnosis from a health care provider may be asked to reschedule their exam. Instructors will be notified immediately if the UTC is unable to accommodate their student upon arrival.
