IEEC received the Koh Young award

In April of 2018, the IEEC was the recipient of the Koh Young award for the 2017 year. This research award was in regards to a project that the IEEC team had been working on. The aim of this smart electronics manufacturing project is to optimize and advance the current Surface Mount Technology (SMT) with cutting-edge artificial intelligence /machine learning techniques. Printing advising module is developed using sophisticated data-driven methodologies to improve the printed circuit board quality and increase process robustness. Reinforcement learning approaches are used to develop a printing optimization module to achieve the printing parameters intelligent control. Also, printing diagnosis module is studied to reduce the operational costs and potential fabrication failures by early identifying and preventing the failure causes. Recently, deep learning models, such as convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network, are used to detect a potential anomaly in the SMT to ensure the high operation reliability and smart process control. The innovative electronic manufacturing solutions from this project will promote the sustainable success of the electronics manufacturing and improve the competitive advantage with efficient manufacturing decision making, improved product quality, and increased profitability. Also, this will advance the development of Industry 4.0 in the SMT domain.
