There are a large number of funding opportunities provided by institutions and endowments outside of Binghamton University, and we encourage students to apply for any opportunities for which they qualify. Please note that some of these scholarships require certification from our office and/or other campus offices. Email iegi@binghamton.edu to be connected with one of our scholarships advisors if you have questions about scholarship certification from our office or anything else scholarship related.
Scholarship Tips:
- Make sure to answer the specific questions that each scholarship application is asking. There may be overlap between what different scholarship applications ask, but make sure you are tailoring your responses to meet the goals of that particular scholarship.
- Utilize the resources available to you on campus: IEGI scholarships advisors, External Scholarships and Undergraduate Research Center (ESURC), and the Writing Center.
- Write authentically and in your own voice. Scholarship committees will remember the essays that leaned into specificity, not the ones written by AI. Try to be as specific as possible within your essays, and do your research about where you intend to study abroad! For example, a student that writes about a specific club or activity they want to join is going to be much more engaging than a student who writes generally about attending cultural events and festivals.
- Proofread your work! Read your work out loud, have a friend read it over, and utilize the writing center. Make sure that you are not submitting an essay response without checking it over first.
- Give yourself time! Try to research and work on scholarship essays early so you are not forced to procrastinate. This can save you from headaches if you encounter any technical difficulties the day you submit your scholarship application.
